This is a series of short stories and
nonfiction observations about the world, life, work, careers and striving for a
more peaceful utopia. One entry is a story called, “The Pasta Machine,” which is
a narrative account of life as a migrant worker. The story goes over the
difficulties of being a migrant worker, what it’s like to work with others who
may not speak the same language as you, and an unlikely encounter with a piece
of the machinery.
It continues by giving another narrative account of
life after the work day intertwined with thoughts, theories and personal
interpretations of things such as Darwin’s theory of evolution, corporate
American, what common sense really means, and lack of luck with the opposite
sex. The entry also gives insights into things such as nudity, the difficulty of
working and political correctness.
Overall, it seems to be about career and
life choices and the complexities that go into figuring out what you want to do.
The author goes back and forth on what career should be pursued, if one should
be at all, and the frustrations involved with the world in general, and those
that exist around him. It seems to jump between narrative accounts of daily
events, and personal insights and interpretations on random worldly issues. It's both about the monotony of being a migrant worker and short, precise
observations about things affecting the universe, society, people and life in
general.
