Censorship in America is needed in order to keep us all from having a panic attack and causing a riot at the first sound of danger. It is important that we have leaders who are strong and act in the best interest of our country.
That being said it is not always the case. For instance, it has been noted that government officials were aware of the upcoming attack on the twin towers on 911. There is a lot of speculation as to why they did nothing to prevent the attack.
It makes one wonder just how much we can trust the ones we vote into office to make life a little easier for us. Is it better to be ignorant of what is going on around you? Or do you have the right to know so that you can take action to prevent any harm coming to you or your family? That is where the censorship should end. When a country as great as ours puts one in charge of the welfare of everyone, it is up to that same country to have that person impeached if he does not do what he can to protect them. As long as he is on top of it and securing our safety then censorship in that form is good. If however there is a danger of the enemy coming to our land and putting us in danger then we have the right to know.
It is important to try and learn the facts about matters before making a judgment on them.
Obviously, ignorance can be bliss and it can lead to death.
There is also a good example of fear running the economy at this time. Any news channel is running fear, because it draws better ratings.
In this case disinformation masquerades as fact and causes the economy to shut-down.
Merry Christmas! I dislike that Christmas, a time to be happy (regardless of your religion) has been hijacked and turned into a capitalist orgy.
But without the orgy the world's economy spirals downward.
Thus bring on the orgy, but can we be nicer to each other too?
this piece caught my eye for many reasons....and i agree with what you say about holidays, in general, being a capitalistic orgy....its true. we don't realize it until we are the ones heading up that orgy as adults. whether we are blinded by fate, blinded by religion or blinded by love.....i think that choosing to be blind at all is only adding fuel to the fire. realize your surroundings, don't like it? do something to change it! change is sometimes radical, and often painful....but so is growth and development. development isn't always the cutting down of the brazilian rainforest, or the impression left on the melting ice caps from industrialized america......sometimes the hardest changes to make are the small ones, the ones that begin internally....such as being nicer to eachtoher. that is growth and development on a very personal and thoughtful level. getting people to recognize and accept responsibility for their actions is tough, especially when some of those individuals are the CEO's of big business corporate america! BUT, beginning with the heart, changing one person at a time.....it spreads.
maybe i am too optomistic.....
