The war on terror began in retaliation to the attacks on September 11, 2001 and today we are still fighting this war. Since the attacks made by terrorists from Pakistan-based “Al Queda," politicians have had a hard time separating terrorists from Muslims. This has caused racist hate acts against Muslims and led people to turn from supporting the war on terror and President Bush, even leading to major protests in America.
When looking three years back to today the changes made are remarkable. Before the war the Afghani Taliban government was aiding and abetting Alqueda leaders and letting them train terrorist and even recruit them in Pakistan. Today terrorist camps are closed and Pakistan is even helping the U.S. stop terrorists by turning in suspects and arresting them. Pakistan has formerly sold nuclear weapons and technology to countries like Iran, North Korea, and Libya who have been openly hostile to America. Today this no longer occurs. Today Iraq is moving closer and closer to democracy, a way of life no Iraqi ever thought they would live. The Iraqis are working to get rid of all terrorists in their country. The A.Q. Kahn nuclear network has been shut down completely and the Libyan president Ghadafi has let go of his nuclear ambitions.
The war on terror has been successful but has also caused some inconveniences. For instance privacy rights have been dampened. Eavesdropping and wire tapping have been legalized with less conditions and racial profiling has erupted. Many claim the war on terror has been unsuccessful but when looking at the changes there are major accomplishments that just can not be denied.
