Keith Olbermann on Prop 8

Equality for all?

Prop 8's defeat speaks so loudly as to how far we have to go...

Blacks voted to kill gay marriage by a huge margin.

For the love of Spam why?

We all want equality.

African-Americans were held down and, yet, African-Americans voted to hold another minority down?

Marriage hasn't been sacred for a long time.

I was talking to a couple that thought gay marriage cheapened their marriage... they'd both taken the sacred vows twice before.

They'd been divorced and married again and somehow Prop 8 cheapens their marriage?

50% of hetero marriages turn into divorces. The sanctity of the next marriage?

Countless marriages, countless : "Until death do we part." Lies.

This is: Discrimination.

By white, by blacks and greens and blues.

Equal rights are equal rights.

By definition minorities are disadvantaged when it comes to winning at the polls. This is why the judicial system exists, to protect minorities from a heartless majority.

I hope the constitution holds-up to this blatantly religious backed, attempt to bring church and state together under the guise of back door money.

Have a nice day.

The only argument for me that would allow someone to logically vote for prop 8 is one that comes from the whole idea of separation of church and state but in reverse, in protection of the church. This is because the term marriage came from the church and is therefore essentially religious. As such, the state should not get to say who gets "married". Or at least one could make such an argument.
    So what should be done?
Abolish marriage licences completely. Instead have "union contracts" that are exactly the same as marrige licences as far as rights, benefits, ect., but are not called "marriage licences". Make these availibe for both gay and straight couples alike, and allow churches to hold marriage cermenoies for whomever they choose. This way gays will have equal rights under the law and the church will be allowed to discriminated as god intended them to.

    You are correct Lo-dog.

Let religion keep the term "marriage".

Their fight was not for separation of church and state, but unification of same.

By using money and lies to influence sheep they turned it into a "your children will be taught to be gay in school" thing.

I'd laugh it didn't work... sad really.

Tolerate us, but we won't tolerate you. Be like us or you are not equal.

hey, my email: jab1463@earthlink.net... send me some stuff.
