One in five of the world's people live on less then 1 dollar a day. Landmines kill or maim at least one person every hour. David Beckham earns $100 every minute. Since 1977 there have been more than 120,00 acts of violence and disruption at abortion clinics in North America. Everyday one in five - 800 million - people go hungry. A third of the World's population is at war. 25% of armed conflicts involve struggles for resources (too many people). More people die each year from suicide than in all the world's armed conflicts. Nearly 26 million people voted in the 2001 British General Election. More than 32 million voted in the first of American Idol. There are 27 million slaves in the world today. Americans discard 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour. Enough to reach the moon every three weeks. There are 300,000 child soldiers fighting in conflicts around the world. These are just a few of the reasons we need to be skeptical of what we're told and not told. While we're focused on our economy, there are other things going on. History is another good place to start being a cynic. Try "The People's History of The United States" by Howard Zinn. Questioning the status quo is not only OK, it's our duty.
