I’m late (as usual) Mr. Borgnine turned 92 a few days ago. For those of you not familiar with Mr. Borgnine or his work, well, he’s one of those special guys that improves movies he’s in. Oh, and he won an Oscar for Marty in 1955. I had the pleasure of acting with Mr. Borgnine in 1998’s The Last Great Ride, produced by a friend of mine that has now passed on, Gary Starr. Yup, I think I caught a glimpse of the shirt I was wearing in the climactic auction scene (I used stop-action, it might have been my shirt). I assume I did a good job of getting out the way the oncoming car, since Mr. Borgnine didn’t holler at me. He did however holler at a supporting actor “Hey, get your ass out of the trailer. Who’s the star here?” It was hot and the supporting actor was his son. He was gracious and gregarious… I’m sure everyone wanted to meet him. My loss. But hey, I acted (stood in the background) with Ernest Borgnine. Movies you might know or want to see (there are others): The Dirty Dozen, From Here to Eternity, Vera Cruz, Marty, Bad Day at Black Rock, The Wild Bunch, The Poseidon Adventure. His list of credits is too long to mention, as is the list of other stars of the golden age he shared the screen with. I loved him on TV in McHale’s Navy as well. Happy Birthday Mr. Ernest Borgnine. And thanks for the memories. He has a new biography out as well... I'll check, I think it's: Ernest buy unique gifts at Zazzle |
